How It Works
Four-Layer Protection System
Outer glass layer: Heat-strengthened or tempered glass absorbs the initial impact force
PVB or SGP interlayer: Holds the glass together even when cracked — the critical barrier that maintains your building envelope
Inner glass layer: Secondary pane adds structural rigidity and additional sound dampening
Aluminum frame system: Heavy-gauge aluminum with anchor points engineered for Florida wind loads
Impact Window FAQ
What is the difference between impact glass and tempered glass?
Tempered glass is four times stronger than standard glass, but it shatters into small pieces on impact. Impact glass uses a laminated interlayer that holds the glass together even when cracked — maintaining the building envelope during a hurricane. That is the critical difference.
Will impact windows qualify me for insurance discounts?
Yes. When all openings in your home are protected with Miami-Dade approved impact products, you qualify for a full opening protection credit on your wind mitigation inspection. Most homeowners see 25-45% savings on the wind portion of their insurance premium.
How long do impact windows last?
Impact windows typically last 25-30+ years. The aluminum frames are corrosion-resistant and the laminated glass does not degrade over time. Most manufacturers we carry offer lifetime limited warranties on glass and hardware.
Are impact windows custom-sized for my openings?
Every impact window we install is custom-manufactured to fit your exact opening dimensions. There are no off-the-shelf sizes. We measure every opening during your free in-home consultation and order each unit built to spec.
